Gravity and flesh --
add the two together, what a mess.
Thousands of ways
that the human body betrays.
But there's a letter in the mailbox,
and there's a robin in the yard
and there's the coming golden hour if the daylight feels hard.
You're here, then gone.
Everybody else will carry on.
Time is a hoax and you're the only one in on the joke.
But there's the Fall Preview Issue, and there are super-loud guitars
And there are people who would kiss you in noisy, dark bars.
And when our ship comes in, I guess we'll live
And when our ship comes in, I guess we'll live on a boat.
You tried, you slide, everything condenses to a die that
you roll, you fold, this rickety container for your soul.
But there's a coffee on the table,and that new paperback you got,
and there is passion if you're able,
and mercy if you're not.
